This book about the fabled Indonesian island of Bali and its humanitarian outreach to other Indonesian provinces on the legendary islands of Borneo and New Guinea is aimed at not only tantalizing a viewer’s eye, but also to help re-open many Indonesian eyes to the world of the seeing. Proceeds from Bali Eye On Indonesia go to Yayasan Kemanusiaan Indonesia (The Indonesia Humanitarian Foundation), a charitable organization committed to helping the sick and poor. One of the foundation’s major projects is the operation of a community eye hospital and mobile clinics in Bali with outreach centers in South Kalimantan and Irian Jaya to provide surgery for cataracts and glaucoma – at no cost to a needy patient. The program has so far taken more than 16,000 poor Indonesians from darkness to sight. By purchasing Bali Eye on Indonesia, you are helping us to give back vision – and the wonderful ability to behold beauty – to yet one more Indonesian person.

You can bathe in the colors and the moods, splash in the sights and images, douse yourself in culture, yet face stark tragedy, all of which come together to make Bali a special place within the magical islands of Indonesia. The art of photography is also an act of magic, as a photographer’s perception, a frame of film and a ray of light intersect at one moment. Bali Eye on Indonesia reminds us of the power of a photo. A picture may be worth a thousand words, but a great picture renders mere words useless. Which makes you wonder: if these images conjured up by a photographer’s camera can hold such great value, then how much greater value is the ability to see?
