Re.turn - Recent Works of Franklin Chow is the debut exhibition of the artist in Asia at the ION Art gallery. The exhibition and accompanying catalogue features a selection of mixed-media works that testify to the exhilarating and complex re-locations, re-collections and journeys of the artist in his creative development. This publication features essays by French art historian Pierre Daix (b.1922) – the widely reputed biographer of Pablo Picasso and recipient of the prestigious Grand Officier title in the French Legion of Honour; as well as curatorial essays by Low Sze Wee, Deputy Director (Curation & Collections) of the National Art Gallery, Singapore, and the exhibition curator Lindy Poh. Taken together, they disclose the shaping of an artistic voice that speaks of cultural and personal spaces that cannot be easily polarised as art of the East or West.

FRANKLIN CHOW (b.1946, Shanghai/Geneva), trained at the Academie de la Grande Chaumiere in Paris, and immersed in his Chinese heritage, hones an approach that reveals multiple influences drawn from fine art, graphic communications, literary texts and filmic representations.
